Further features include a reading view, PDF reader, syncing with OneDrive and Dropbox, and easy collaboration such as document commenting alongside the text in question. The app does require 1GB of RAM on your device, and you’ll need a free Microsoft account for signing in. If you want more you might opt to subscribe to Office 365, but that’s really not necessary for the majority of editing features.

Whether you want help with documents, assignments, resumes, blogs or more, this official Microsoft app is packed with tools for customization. There’s also a PDF reader while you can edit PDFs via conversion to a Word document or convert a document into PDF format after editing. All you need to start editing or creating documents is to sign in with a Microsoft account (free) on your device. The Microsoft Word app has plenty to offer that’s entirely free though IAPs may be required for some advanced features. It’s a trusted and reliable app with a nice layout that makes it satisfying to use.

Docs To Go is a well-established solid option for creating and editing Microsoft Office files and viewing Adobe PDF files. One drawback though, is that although document viewing and editing are free, in-app purchases are necessary for some other features. These include file access via the cloud, support for password-protected files, and desktop syncing with Windows. If you can get past this or don’t need all of the features, this is a nicely laid out app that’s worth looking at.

The app uses InTact Technology so that even after editing it still retains the original document format. Cloud service support covers Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, and Box.

Another popular office app, the title lists everything the suite can do, including opening, editing, and saving documents. It supports various file formats including DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, PPT, PPTX, PPS, PPSX, TXT, HWP, ODT, and PDF. As well as the default Polaris Drive cloud service, it’s also compatible with Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, and Box, and it supports 18 different languages including, Arabic, English, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish.

It’s worth saying that we found the number of ads pretty annoying but it’s possible to get rid of them with an in-app purchase costing $2.99. Also, some features require a subscription option starting from $3.99 a month. Why not try it for free and see if it suits before you decide whether it’s worth paying for.

This Kingsoft app is popular with users and proved extremely reliable in our time using it so far. It’s nicely compact in size (below 37MB), and is compatible with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, OpenOffice, and Adobe PDF.

Documents can be saved to Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, OneDrive, and Evernote and shared via Email, WiFi, NFC, DLNA, Instant Messaging, Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, and Telegram. Nice features for the viewing of documents include Mobile View and Special Night Mode, and the app supports a vast variety of office file formats. In-app purchases are available for further features such as presentation templates or a Microsoft-compatible fonts package.

This is a newer app so is less well tried out. However, from what we’ve seen so far there’s enough to impress. A nice bonus is that no in-app purchases are necessary, although there are ads to take into account. Just one of the features is being able to change the all docs reader to tools and grid view.

The app works well as a handy document reader for viewing, editing, and saving documents, and supports PDF, DOCX, POXT, DPS, DPT, PPTX, POTX, PPSC, and TXT file reader among others.

OfficeSuite from MobiSystems is a well-known productivity app that enables you to create and edit Word documents as well as PowerPoint, Excel, and PDF support. It’s packed with features including MobiSystems Drive for storage of up to 5GB of documents, Chat client, an integrated file manager, and the interface is reminiscent of desktop usage.

Further features include an integrated spell checker, text-to-speech support, sharing via additional cloud services such as Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Box, and Amazon Cloud Drive, as well as sharing over Bluetooth and Email. The free version of OfficeSuite is good but you can pay extra to upgrade to OfficeSuite Pro + PDF for additional features or use the trial version of OfficeSuite Pro.

Of course, it doesn’t just have to be used for business as it also has plenty to offer other users, such as sharing grocery lists, compiling a list of gift ideas, or seeing what others are taking to a potluck dinner.

A relatively new app, N Docs is more basic but is completely free. You can create, view, and edit documents, and there’s support for Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint (not password protected files), Open/Libre Writer, Calc, and Impress, and Hancom Hanword, Hancell, and Hanshow. Do note that with Open/Libre and Hancom you’ll need to open with a third-party app.

As far as storage services are concerned it’s compatible with Google Drive, Box, and OneDrive. The interface is not our favorite but it’s good that the app has a minimal footprint of just 15MB.

This uncomplicated app is convenient for opening and saving files, saving in .html or .htm formats, with easy sharing to other apps. Documents can be simultaneously open under tabs and there’s fast access to documents that were recently opened. You can change font size, alignment, color and more and there are options for bold font, italics, strike-through, and underline. If you’re easily bored you can change to another theme, as there are 17 to choose from.

The name Evernote will be familiar with a lot of people, and although it’s a note taking app it also has a whole lot more to offer.
